Christian Clermont, PhD

Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Christian Clermont completed his PhD in Kinesiology (Biomechanics) and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Calgary. He is also a trained professional in pattern recognition methods, data analytics, and machine learning to quantify the complex nature of human movement. Much of his research has focused on the use of wearable technology for the collection of typical and atypical biomechanics data in the fields of health and sports science. He has also worked on several industry projects with companies such as adidas, Anta, Superfeet, WiiV, and Prevent Biometrics to develop, evaluate, and validate products to improve athletic performance and reduce the risk of injury.

Breann Worobets, MKin

Applied Research Technician

Breann brings an exercise physiology and human performance perspective to research in biomechanics. She has gained extensive experience in data collection by testing many elite athletes using various pieces of equipment and performing many different protocols. Her detail orientated qualities help contribute to accurate and reliable data collection required for companies such as Lululemon and Under Armour. She also has been able to help guide practicum students in applying their knowledge to real world situations.

Mark Pineda, BSc

Applied Research Technician

Mark joined the Sport Product Testing team in 2021 as an Applied Research Technician where he is instrumental in the data collection, data analysis, and technical support for our various projects related to athletic footwear, apparel, and wearable technology.  Mark obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomechanics at the University of Calgary in 2021.  During his studies he gained valuable research experience and worked with motion capture systems through summer internships and academic projects. With a strategic mindset and an appetite to learn new skills, Mark seeks to find innovative ways to enhance the quality of services provided by Sport Product Testing.

Monica Russell, MSc

Applied Research Technician

Monica obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biomechanics and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering, both from the University of Calgary. She was part of the Wearable Technology Research and Collaboration training program during graduate school, receiving a specialization in wearable tech. During her studies, she gained invaluable skills in motion capture data collection and post-processing, as well as multiple coding languages, machine learning concepts, and scientific writing. She officially joined the Sport Product Testing team in November 2022 after completing a practicum placement with them for her Master’s degree. Monica is excited to apply her academic knowledge to her work with Sport Product Testing and contribute to the growing industry of sports apparel and wearable technology.

Arash Khassetarash, PhD

Research Scientist

Dr. Arash Khassetarash completed hisBachelor and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tabriz and his PhD in Kinesiology (biomechanics) and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Calgary. Arash’s academic work was focused on running biomechanics by applying physiological, mechanical, and biomechanical concepts to investigate a wide variety of questions ranging from neuromuscular fatigue, musculoskeletal loading in graded running, and effects of footwear on running performance/injury aspects. Arash is also trained in signal processing and pattern recognition methods and have applied them in sports and health science. Arash has worked on several industry projects and collaborated with companies such as Salomon, CCM Hockey, Dr.Scholl’s, and Orpyx Inc. in several sports and health-related topics.

Gabriella Durante, BSc

Applied Research Technician

Gabriella is a University of Calgary graduate with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomechanics. She is currently a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Kinesiology, specializing further in Biomechanics, while also playing on the Varsity Women's Hockey team at the University of Calgary. During her studies, Gabriella has been involved in research projects involving motion capture and inertial measurement units, honing her skills with data collection, data analysis, and scientific writing. Gabriella first got introduced to the Sport Product Testing team in September 2021 as a practicum student and has now continued the relationship as she works through her graduate degree. Gabriella brings an athletic and academic background to help Sport Product Testing clients enhance their products.

Josh Ellis, BSc

Applied Research Technician

Josh studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Calgary with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he spent 2 summers researching at the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health, specifically focussing on walking aids, electromyography and motion capture. Along with this, he completed his Engineering Capstone Project of developing an underactuated robotic hand capable of in-hand manipulation. Josh joined the SPT team in July 2024 and is excited to bring his modelling and coding skills into the lab to contribute to the world of athletic apparel and products.
